Are they generically engineered, fed steroids, or selectively bred like farm/ranch whitetails? Doesn't seem possible to be that far from the norm without some "assistance".

No...read up on em....thay have an invasive quagga mussel in the lake. They feed on them plus the much warmer temps out there. Here is good article.

Those are huge fish. To far for an old crippled up man to drive. I would love to fish that lake for sure.
