While none of the fish I caught today were really exceptional they more than made up for that fact in sheer numbers. And using the Diplomat Extreme 62 UL Area Trout rod made the day exceptional as far as fun factor. The rod was strung up with Varivas ES2 Lemoni Ester line in 2.3# test. Lure was a Bison Trout Magnet on a 1.5 gram Daiwa Gekkabijin jig head with a #8 hook. While no spawning activity is going on at Nickajack yet it may only be a day or two away. Water temps were 71 degrees. Of course the largemouth came out to play due to so many sunfish up shallow. They did give me an exceptional battle with many of them being at the 16 inch mark…and a couple of Spots at the 13 inch mark. The 7 inch redbreast, Gills, and shell crackers gave a good fight as well along with the crappie. This is the beauty of UL angling. After 6 hours on the water…which is unusual for me these days…175 fish were brought to hand. I will burn I24 up next week in search of bedding shell cracker…if the weather cooperates. It’s been like this for me down there the past 5 years. It happens fast and furious and I burn the roads up to get in on as much of it as I can. Have to admit though the driving is really wearing on me.
