More than 100 years ago! Things have changed but I think those steel rods were still sold up into the 1950s.

I have seen the solid steel rods. Kind of like a buggy whip steel CB antenna. For the time period I am sure the Bristol rod was high performance

Just make sure to dry them off after use!

I have an aluminum rod made by Airex in the 1950s. Fun to fish with and no rust concerns.

We’ve come a LONG way FFW. I do remember the steel ones were still around in the 50s. I was pre teen back then so was interested more in the fiberglass rods.

The fiberglass was certainly a lighter weight alternative
