Bluegill Spawn
Hey guys,
As we all probably know bluegill will spawn from late April-August (depending on what of the country you are in). I went to a new lake around the full moon last week to fish for some bedding bream. I usually don’t fish this late in summer because of the heat but it was a nice overcast day so the heat wasn’t as bad. I did pretty good catching bream on beds but I couldn’t help but notice that most of the fish were in the 6.5-7.5 inch range. Those are still decent bluegill but not the 8 inch plus I’m use to catching. From your experience, do smaller males spawn later in the summer? I know smaller male crappie usually spawn after the larger males or get less favorable spawning spots. The 6.5-7.5 inchers I was catching could very well be the largest they get in that lake but any insight would be appreciated.
