Default gill carcass for catfish bait

I cleaned a small mess of gills for my little boy and stuck the leftover carcasses in plastic bag and tossed 'em in the freezer to use for catfish bait.

Anyone else do this? I'm wondering how well they'll work.

Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We are going with you also." They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing.

And we act like this Nightstalking thing is new.

For some excitment, read the next verse. A special guest arrived, they filled their coolers and had a fish fry on the beach...in the morning. My kind of people.- Bowfin

Heck yeh. Especially if you are fishing in a pond, and that pond has brim and catfish. My favorite thing is puting a brim head on a hook with no weight and a good sized bobber( one of those 6 or 8 inch ones ). Its neat watching that big bobber stand up and then plunge under.

i like using bluegills that swallow the hook deep for big cats. chances are they are bleeding so bad that they will die anyway.

That pretty much describes every gill my littleboy catches. I'm gonna have to put some bigger hooks on my gill poles. I thought long shanks would help, but they just swallow it deeper. I end up keeping almost all I catch so as not to leave any floaters in the neighbors pond. I figure I'll just use the little ones for catfish bait. Anything caught through the lip gets tossed back unless the little one protests too much.

yep your right bowfin it seems like the litle buggers just like to swallow the hook. i have done like you also with the longer shank hooks. but still have several swallow it deep.
