2X on the Alberto knot
I'm also in the camp of keeping my leaders short enough to not have to cast my connecting knot through a guide.
While the Alberto knot, among others, is certainly a good choice for joining lines, any knot, regardless how small it may be, is still going to act as a tire hitting a speed bump to some extent when it makes contact with a guide while casting.
That's just been my experiance, others MMV.
Sorry, not trying to Jack this thread.
This may be a topic for an entirely new thread.
How many turns do you typically use for this knot?
Ive tried it on a few leader connections the last couple days and had great luck, its the smallest knot I’ve tried yet, I quite like it.
Until today, using the .15 PE braid I just got it, it is super fine diameter, I’m guessing .001- .0015.
I went up to 10 turns and this thin braid just slipped right out.
Using 4lb (.004 diameter) nylon mono as leader.
Knot works great with the polyester mono, .2 and .3 size PE braid, nanofil, and suffix 2lb nanobraid, just not my newest .15 PE braid.

In the diagram on step three I take the tag end of the braid and go around and through the loop one extra time. I use 4 lb. Flouro and 5 lb. power pro( .01 mm or .004 In).. I find that the last wraps back up really matter on this setup also.
I’m thinking maybe a coating on the tiny line making it slicker. I have one line, much heavier, that won’t take an FG knot, I tried 3 times.
Thanks for posting the diagram. Will get my junk out and try it first hand tomorrow. The FG does well for my salt stuff but a double uni is all I’ve ever used for the smaller stuff. I’m not against learning something new.
Yankee Bill I can throw a 1/32oz jigfly (actual weight) with 4# fireline and a 4# fluorocarbon leader joined with this knot 45 ' to 50' measured distance on my driveway. I agree any knot will cause friction on contact with guides. My casting targets fishing is far less than the 45' I can cast it most of the time. I use the leader for gills and red ear. Fish straight braid when after crappie because they are not the least bit line shy where I fish. Thanks for your comment. Sent from my SM-G960U using Crappie.com Fishing mobile app
I use 7 turns up and another 7 turns back to the loop. I wet the lines and slowly pull it together. When snugging it down be careful that it doesn't try roll over itself. After it's snugg I pull hard on each of the four sections and then trim two tag ends. Never tied something as small diameter as you have there.
