testing waxies double jigs

Awhile back I was dialing in a fly rod using flies tipped with maggots. Got back out today and tested flies tipped with gulp waxies.

Started using whole waxies and ended up using 1/2 waxies at a time. Water was clear in the pond so I went with green on green (green fly/green waxie). That combo flat out destroyed the bluegill!!! Could hardly keep it in the water.

A couple weeks ago I tested bison trout magnets tipped with crappie nibbles. Today I tested the bison trout magnets with the waxies. I like the waxies a lot better, they last long and stay on longer. I was catching 4 and 5 fish before the waxie was done in.

The bison/waxie combo had no problem catching bass, bluegill & crappie. Caught 14/15 fish in all with that combo in an hour including this crappie before moving on with more testing. The phone cover is 6 1/2".

Decided to do a little testing with dpuble jigs. Years ago we'd using crappie spreaders for perch on lake erie. We'd use hoks in the 2 spreaders and a 3rd hook at the bottom with the sinker for bottom bouncing. The bottom hook didn't catch that many fish but when it did the were huge jumbo's. When we were hitting jumbo's hard we'd take the top hook off and put a silver spoon or blade on for flash, an attractant. Decided to use the bison/waxie on the bottom and 16" up use a pink jig/ping & white tube & green waxie on top.

Didn't want to loose this big crappie trying to take a picture while holing it in the air so I laid it down in the grass, caught on the pink/white tube tipped with waxie.

Was a good 4 hours of fishing/testing with a lot of fish being caught. The waxies did extremely well and held up to numerous hits/fish before having to be replaced. I'm going to keep running the double jigs for awhile. The tube in the front makes the trout maggot more buoyant & it slows the sink time.

I can see the pictures just fine. I love the Waxies, been using them a couple years now for Gills. Bass and most other fish like them too. I use white and chartreuse interchangeably, water color really determines the tip choice. Too much structure where I fish for two jig rig, have trolled that way, but cast and retrieve is one jig...one jig only. Good catch, looks like fun place to stick a few.

When I use to fly fish I always tipped my flys with crappie nibbles,Berkley honey worms or nightcrawlers.
