Frequently we read of others endeavors and wonder “how did he put that all together and find those active fish?” These last few trips I have been doing something a little different but not unheard of and reminiscent of my green fish days. Search baits. We all know that the gills like little jigs, but it can take a long time to sift through unproductive water and get to the hot spot. A little while back I stumbled into a Worden Rooster Tail with a single hook instead of a treble. We all know the problems the treble presents and this single hook makes it much easier. BPS offers a trout trophy pack or something like that and they do a great job. I set the Tm on constant as slow as it will go and cover a shoreline reasonably quick. When you find em, put that down, sometimes hard to do, and pick up the jig and wear em out. Accuracy is better with a jig and depth control much easier too. I also use a beetle spin but they kinda refused it some a while back, while they hit this Rooster Tail with abandon. A bonus today was that it delivered all but 3 of the fish caught, with one being a 5lb 4oz catfish that wanted to go south REAL bad. That one took a couple of minutes more than usual. The ‘gills that I hammered yesterday were nowhere to be found today, though I was in a different area. This little spinner really does the job, hope this helps you have a better day one day soon......Skeet.
