I fished one of the local flows yesterday, and the fish were biting. Problem was none of the red bellies were bigger than about 4 inches. I was anticipating a bad year this year due to lack of rainfall this winter and spring, combined with the drought last fall. I have had no problems tha past five years catching a mess of good sized redbreast in this particular flow, but I'm thinking the lack of rain has put a hurting on them. They grow and feed at an amazing rate when the waters get up in the trees and stay there for a few months. This usually happens every year. Anybody else have different results? This is a bummer because the local rivers are where I fish in the summers to beat the heat. Being this late in the spring already it doesn't look like there is going to be any significant rainfall either.
