I used 2# test Nanofill for about 2 years and nothing else. Lost count of how many fish I caught with it to include hundreds and hundreds of smallmouth in the 18-21 inch range. I never tied directly with NanoFil....except just to try it out few times tying directly. It simply has almost no abrasion resistance. I always used a 2# test fluro leader tied to the Nanofill with a simple triple overhand knot...or some call it a surgeons knot. I never had a knot failure doing this. The very few times I did tie directly to Nanofil I used the double palomar knot. It worked fine for me...if a 21 inch Smallie is not going to test the knot I don't know what will. But if you fish rocky reservoirs I strongly suggest always to use some sort of leader.

Interesting. I wonder why everybody doesn't do this.

I use only Fireline Crystal in 2# test. Have been using it for over 1/2 dozen years now. I dislike PP solely because of the noise it makes coming through the guides when you have a fish on. And as far as Nano goes, I tested it for a season & a half and lost more fish due to knot failure than with any other line I have ever used (in over 50 years of fishing experience and knot tying). Took it off 3 of my reels and replaced it with the Fireline and a fluorocarbon leader. Have never looked back.

There is no doubt the nanofill cast unbelievably well and i do fine with 6lbs test crappie fishing but for the life of me i have totally failed at finding a knot that will hold with the 1 and 2 lbs test. when you mentioned joining the fluro to the nano do you tie the triple overhand knot in both directions (meaning the leader around the main line and the mainline around the leader) or just make the three knots around the leader and cinch it down?

If I'm using a leader I tie a uni to uni knot. If tie direct have not had a problem with the double palomar knot.

I just run it through 3 times. If you look at this video at the 3:21 mark you will see how it is done. Me...my son.....my nephews...and many friends use this knot to tie a leader. We don't have knot failures. Many use other knots and that is fine. But for me I want to keep it as simple as I can and it doesn't get any more simple than this. I have arthritic hands, and while there may be a better knot to tie for the the leader going through the eyes of a rod when casting I just can't tie it. Many good knots out there but if there is one more simple to tie than the triple overhand let me know...I want to use it.

Funny, I've been using the Alberto knot for at least 8 years now and have not experience any difficulty tying, or failures due to it. Nanofil will not work with it - period.

X2 on that. That knot in the posted Video is super simple but I worry about it going through my microguides smoothly.
