I agree with this opinion for my own use. I just received a new 7' 6" Fenwick L-MFS 2 pc rod in the mail from Allegany Angler in PA.
Ed, the guy there spent well over an hour on the phone with me while he picked up every rod of his big inventory for me. I had tried
several 7' ultralites localy including the 7' Eagle model Fenwick. I couldn't find a 7' St Croix Panfish model localy even in Okeechobee, but he had one and said I wouldn't like that one either as it is very whippy. He did stress how good the Loomis rods are and guaranteed id be very happy with one. But finally, he said let me look at a higher grade Fenwick, and picked up the rod I now have. He said ill ship this rod to you for $99.95 to your door, and if you aren't happy send it back. The container he shipped it in is pvc pipe with the rod wrapped with bubble wrap inside. I think its the nicest rod ive ever held in my hand. All I need do now is decide on the line, but I think ill start with 4#. Its rated at 4 to 8#.

I'm looking for two or three 7ft, preferably ultra lights. I've enjoyed my Premier, Triumph and Panfish Series rods made by St Croix, but I've recently broken the tips on three of them. It seems like the St Croix rods have weak tips, at least that's been my luck.

I'd like to try the 7ft Fenwick rod but would prefer the ultra light if possible. As far as money, I'll spend $100-$125 or so on a good rod but $300 is silly IMO. Manufacturers have warped the publics' thinking on products. You absolutely should not have to spend three one hundred dollar bills to have a quality bluegill/shellcracker pole.

As far as reels,I now buy pflueger presidents ( mainly 6925 ) . I was a shimano fan for years . I still like them but feel the lower end Shimano is not any better than the president series in the same price range . jmo To bream fish 125.00 for the set up is about my limit . To many good rods sold on this site to pay way more for a little more .

So, I'm guessing $1,000 for a fly rod is out of the question. ;)

Gosh. I had no clue about jdm rods. Never heard of them. Then jdm shimanos. Didn't know there was a difference. I like good quality stuff. But, a 300.00 rod, with a 200.00 reel better be something special. Based on what's been said, not sure if a 500.00 outfit is any better than a 200.00 outfit.

QT, not in my opinion. Look up the price of a Shimano Stella. Last I saw it was about $700, and being a Shimano fan, I still don't see it. If one went over the side, I'd have to drain the lake! A good setup can be had for $100 to $200, reel and line included. Some folks have it to spend, and that's OK, just personal taste to my way of thinking.

Not at all, however it is amazing what some pay for something and sell for half 6 mo. later . Everything from boats to jigs are sold daily for three times what they are worth .

Qt - If you go with the G Loomis you would probably be happier with a G2 for pan fishing. 7' one piece is an awesome rod. St. Croix panfish series is a real good choice also.

IMO a problem with JDM rods is they are extremely hard to put down once you have fished one. There are cheaper entry models (little heavier)$60 - $100, mid- level (my choice) $100 - $300, and the upper end $300+. I have got a lot of rods from ebay - most with $20 shipping - within a week (SoCal).

I like fishing the Mebaru style - carbon - solid tip - over 7'. These rods are designed to cast ultra-lite jigs and make the jig dance.

You can play a fiddle and make sweet music or play a violin and make it sweeter...
