Never had any luck here in Florida with them but heading to upstate NY for the summer and they work good. Lucky the Cellar/Basement stays 50-58 year round and they do real well. Try to use prescription bottles with 50-75 in them for every fishing trip. 1000 to 2000 every year.
I'm a fan of wax worms. I like crickets better, but wax worms always seem to be available these days and crickets aren't. I don't really have any advice on keeping them long term though. There's enough time between my fishing trips that I don't try to store them, I always give away any that are left when I'm ready to leave the lake. I usually buy them the day before a planned trip and put them in a small cooler with a blue ice pack in it, but not touching the bait containers. I replace the ice pack the next morning and keep them that way while I'm fishing. It seems to keep them nice and lively. Do the same with red worms since my son has more confidence in them than wax worms.
There no place to buy them local so have to order so have to order several because of the cost thank everyone
why is it when I use wax worms for gills and after a few hours of fishing I get this black looking film on my fingers from the wax worms,,,please no jokes, it really does come off the wax worms done it for years,

For wax worms, I put them in the vegetable crisper in the refrigerator with the panfish/red worms. Open them up add a few drops of water and some oatmeal flakes. 250 or 500ct container will last a few months. If I try keeping them in the basement unrefrigerated they hatch into moths in a few weeks.
