    Default A fun day.

Went back for another day of catching Gills. Only had around 60 fish from first stop but got into about a dozen shellcrackers today.....9-10 inches. Had 23 Gills at the 8-9 inch mark. Caught a lot of juvenile shellcrackers around 6 inchs. Not big at all by shellcracker standards but a 6 inch shellcracker is still a good fight using 2# test line. Second stop was at my old fishing hole of many years...VFW Lake. Caught 10 northern strain Gills there...all of them male cookie cutters...7-8 inches. Didn't stay there long...it had been a long day and it was hot....time to go home. Used two colors of Trout Magnet today....Purple Redemption and Bison. Same setup as yesterday...Tict Ice Cube 6' 9" UL Mebaru rod....SOS 2# test line. Those shellcrackers would hit and take off....each time I got them close to me in that clear water they would see me and take off again....drag screaming....each one making 3-4 runs. Can't wait to hit it again....life is good!

What a real fun day... nothing I like better.

    A couple of questions please...

Do you think the 2# line makes a big difference compared to a 4# line?

What size jig weight is your preferred size? (I pour jig heads from 1/80 oz up to 1/4 oz).

You need to come down here to AL and help me catch a bunch of these HUGE Coppernose bluegills.

    Happy fishing...

I think it makes a huge difference. I have been fishing 2# test for about 8 years now......rarely use anything else....but will step up to 4# test for white bass. I prefer to use a 1/64 ounce jig head with a single size "B" split shot above the jig. But if water is 10 feet or deeper I have to break out other sizes.....1/24.....1/16....3/32. We only have a couple of lakes here in TN with the copper nose in them. How they got in those lakes is a mystery. It remains to be seen how they will do here.

Thanks for the comments guys. I went back for the 3rd time......you know the old saying "Going to the well one time too many"....LOL. It was not a great day for quality fish. I caught a bunch of smaller Gills but had one that was 8 inches.....a nice length...but it had a large girth....fought hard. Made the trip worthwhile.
