Full Moon Blues

Just got back from Tippah lake (at one time held Mississippi's record bluegill and bass and still holds red ear at 3.33 lbs . )Came close to striking out ! The crappie were very light strike . Had 6 bites ! one complete miss , two came off at boat , two fell off hook into boat and I took one off hook . Threw ultra-lite for two hrs. without one bream !Think I have the full moon blues also .Saw one person that had caught three bream since daylight at the ramp (12 noon ) .Word must have been out because there was two boats a kayak and two bank fishing the entire lake 7 a.m. -noon .:dono

Hey if you can go to Reelfoot tell me a Real good reason not to go!!!!!!

I fished Tippah lake Sunday with my wife. $30 gas $12 to pay fishing tax 2 tubes of krickets at that store heading in Ossamma his Mommma $3.99 each before tax 1 keeper Bluegill!!!!!!! 2 guys at boat ramp caught 2 bass!!! One guy fishing off bank had best bass bout 2 lbs.!!!! We had a good laugh trying to give each other 1 darn fish!!!! Like I been saying MS don't stock these lakes like they should!!!!!!!!!!!

I have caught bream and crappie there but it was not happening today .

The bream are still there. Took the day off and went up there with the family Monday and caught 30 of them. But only one in the first four hours. Then they either turned on or I just finally found the right spot, but we caught 29 of them in the afternoon. Caught them on waxworms and red worms (they didn't seem to have a preference) about 3 feet under a bobber.

Going back next time and fish crickets on deep brush .I have seen 2 lb. bream come from there. I am only looking for one ! lake has held three state records . Bluegill, red ear and largemouth bass .Got to be doing something right .Fish Davis for bass many times and caught a few small and a few 2-3 lbs . The band director at Oxford caught a 11.4 , crappie logic on here caught a 12 lb.' er. and one hangs in Clay's bait and tackle in tupelo that was 17 and change . Adapt and Improvise .:popcorn

Yeah I think minnows can be the difference!!!!!!!!

I'm with you. I haven't caught any of the really big shellcrackers yet, but I know they're in there. I'm bank bound and don't get to fish often so I usually focus on the easier targets, but if (when) the day comes when the kids are too cool to hang out with dad anymore I'm going to focus on fishing for the big ones.

I did a test I think it was two years ago on the general rules that bluegill will spawn every full moon once water temps get to low 70's all the way up to September. I tested the theory on 5 bodies of water.....Pickwick Lake....Center Hill Lake......Laurel Hill Lake......VFW Lake......and the Williamsport Lakes. I had about 40 beds marked on my sonar for each lake. I started fishing each lake about one to two weeks before the full moon and continued to fish for a week after. Some of the lakes I fished same day as Laurel Hill Lake...VFW Lake were on the way home from Pickwick Lake. The results were same on all lakes. The first spawn in May the beds were overflowing with fish. The next full moon each bed would have only 4-9 fish on it in June. I found no fish on the beds in July and August. This so called test cost me about 600 bucks in gas and a lot of miles on my vehicle too.....plus it flat wore me out. I had read so many times that they would spawn all through the summer. My results are only for those bodies of water and while I did not do the same extensive test last year it was the same on bodies of water I fish. I caught Gills all through summer but they were not on beds. I think it is different each year according to weather...water temps and so on. Many fish biologist seem to think you have a real big spawn the first time and then throughout summer less and less will spawn. So what does all that mean? Well in the end not much....except I spent a lot of money just to see for myself....LOL.
