    Default Reel Foot blue gills

I posted this on the Tenn. board but after 150 plus views and no response I thought I would try here. About 8yrs ago I took my grandsons to Reel Foot for some bluegill fishing. One of them asked if we could go back some day. I was wondering if the blue gill fishing is still as good as it used to be. I know that the lake gets a lot of pressure. We caught 3/4 to 1lb gills and had a ball. Any info would be appreciated. Bo

It has been years since I fished it. The reputation it once had has gone down. If it still has the fish in it that were common 30 years ago I would be all over it. But the reports I get says it is not the same. Having said that I hear it still produces lots of nice Gills.....but not anything I can't find closer to where I live. Wish I had more info for you.

    Regards

In the river valley area of the Mississippi and Ohio...these oxbow and swamp lakes are still one of the best bets for big bluegill. Reelfoot is famous around here it use to be a go too place for a lot of the locals. However a lot of the old guys are gone and the lake is off its game from the old days and people do not go like they use to so I have no report for you sorry. But...I am willing to bet if you hit it at the peak of the bite you can catch some good ones. You need a bluegill fisherman from the lake that will connect up and tell you when the bite is hot,I hope you find one. It's sort of a gamble to go anywhere and expect to do well on just any given day. Prespawn bite should start in March and bed fishing mid April to May.....almost time to go. Not saying you couldn't catch some tomorrow but peak bite

Fewer fish in smaller area....gotta pinpoint em.
