I tore up the shop hoping I could find one of the jig boxes with a couple red butt jigs to use today. I got lucky and found a store box of them I had forgot about . These are 1/80 oz with#8 bronze hook. Like most all jigs I tie ,I used #6 tying thread in red. Got off to a late start in hopes the fog would be burned off when I got to the first lake. That just didn't work out. It was pretty chilly with a light breeze and so foggy I could hardly make out the canoe out on the lake .
I started marking fish right off. I caught a few before I tried a jig I made that is a near copy of Grizzly Jig Co.s "Bill's Water Flea" .That jig handily out fished my red butt jigs . That jig is a 1/80 oz. head formed on a #10 fly hook . Mine are formed of solder but Grizzly shop has good prices by the dozen.
I finally tired of the constant breeze and chilly fog. so pulled off that lake . On the way home I passed a lake I like to fish and it was somewhat sheltered. I enjoyed getting on this lake again. At one point there was a scattered school with depth running from 7 to 20 ft deep . I never did figure out a pattern on this lake. Most decent fish caught were just off the bottom and not on the finder . The bite was tough at best, but still had a good time.
I'm starting to feel the chill in my feet . The tubing season will soon be history.
