I took the morning off from working on an old house the granddaughter bought and took the old float tube to a local lake. I used a 1/80 kiptail in Blue/black and a 1/80 black jig with a neck hackle on a pair of Micro light ULs. I've been pretty fortunate that the Cabelas Pro Line 4lb has worked very well in these clear waters .
I was hankering for a small mess for a couple meals and was rewarded richly. Some of the larger fish were out on the flats at 14' to 16'. It seemed best when there was nothing showing on the Eagle 350C . I've never seen anyone else use the method I like. I use a waxie loaded jig dropped to the bottom with a shot up 2 or even 3 ft . then I kick off slowly and lift a bit then drop again. I think it is that slow fall at the bottom that they can't stand. I have moved the shot up to even 4' on a tough bite to get more fall. I enjoyed that method for a time then moved on to weed edges for the smaller 7" range to eat. I ended up keeping 21 . After taking the sides off the gills the offall get a shallow grave beside a tomato plant. lol Waste not want not .
The mornings are getting a fallish feel. Corn is in full tassle. Where did the summer go?![]()

Great looking mess of fish.

og - double checked the mailbox and didn't see the invite...... man that look good!!!
Does the shot hinder detection of a light bite? Have you tried the method with heavier jigs?
LH- Sorry for not getting the invite out in time. lol We couldn't send a plate across the street to the widow lady either as she was away from home. The wife fried up the remaining fillets last night since she was home and they were great. I haven't had any problems with missing fish but a heavier jig and no shot would simplify matters. I had forgotten my camera on the water that trip. I thought it was neat that without exception all the larger fish were hooked just inside the top of the mouth. The 7 1/2' UL rods sure helped for light hook sets for easy release. I have to work a jig off deeper stumps a couple times most trips so have been avoiding the true 2 lb line.
OG I fish a similar version of what you are doing. I use 2# test line and a 1/64 ounce head with a Trout Magnet on it and use a size B split shot about 18 inches above the jig head...sometimes it might be 2 feet or I might have it at 12 inches. I use the same method if I move down to a 1/80 ounce jig head. But when I move up in jig size...1/32....1/24.....I don't use the split shot. The split shot method is very productive for me.
