Default Western Iowa Farm Pond 'Gills

Me, my daughter, and 4 buddies had a ball catching 9-11" gills at a local farm pond last weekend. On light takckle those things are mighty fighters! The fish were caught roughly 50/50 on 1/3 bits of crawler and Gulp Alive 2" Fry in yellow under a slip float set to 4'. A buddy broke out the Gulp bait after our boat ran out of crawlers, and who knew they would start hammering them as well as the worms!? Good lesson that it always pays to try new things and not forget about some of those impulse buys laying in your tackle box.

You're welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed them. She outfishes all the boys and most the men we fish with, and her mother is even better! Those two ladies with their Pflueger Lady President 6925's and some 6 pound line are DEADLY!!! LOL!

Thanks guys, and it was a really fun morning. We ended up cleaning 58 of the largest gills and turned a few back. Throw in a dozen or so largemouths that we turned loose, and it was just a fantastic outing with fast action!

I didn't get any pictures, but we went to a 50 acre county lake for the evening bite and ended up keeping 35 9-10" crappies and let go double that many shorts. Thank you Mr. Brewer for your crappie sliders! I tried them for the first time that night and caught a dozen or more on the white and chartreuse with chartruesue head. Also caught green sunfish, largemouth bass, and a nice cat on that jig.
