Default Good Time in Oklahoma Farm Pond

Buddy and I broke out our float tubes the other day and hit a farm pond for a couple hours. The fish were hungry!!! It was one right after another. We kept several due to the pond being over stocked. None of the Huge fish were caught but it was a lot of fun and my buddy ended up with a ton of meat and I ended up with some good catfish bait!!!

WOW! That is a freezer bulging mess of gills. Pond looks to be good sized so probably great to thin them like that. Thanks for sharing.

A few years ago we kept 40 out of this pond and the smallest was right at a pound. I believe it was 15 ounces. Crazy how big some of them get but it seems like there are more smaller to medium ones now. Anyone know if pulling 5 or 600 fish out of a pond like this would help the other ones grow or am I just wasting my time? Maybe I need some flatheads in there.

I'm surprised that tennpondmanager hasn't shared pond tips yet-He must be busy with the new pond . I am for sure no fisheries biologist .There is much to know about the total balance of the gills verses bass.
I can share one bit of knowledge that is most often ignored. Basically it is to never remove the largest male bluegill . For instance if you are catching and keeping big males off the beds you are reducing the overall size of the population. It is really that simple. If I owned a popular pond I would rope off the bedding areas during spawn. The next year class down tastes just as good. Check to see where the fisheries biologist is in your area. I'm sure he would confirm this information . You are paying this person.
