Default Bluegill/Redear spawn Ky Lake questions

I have always heard that bluegill and redear spawn around the full moon. Is it true that they will spawn for more than one occurence of the full moon? That is, will they spawn in during both the May and June full moons?

In my experience, bluegill will spawn all summer long, not just May and June. I'm pretty sure redears only spawn once, though.

Bluegill spawn intermittently from April through August. The biggest spawns are in April and May, or sometimes May and June if spring is unusually cool; but some percentage of the total population of any lake will be spawning throughout the summer months. However, by far the most activity happens before summer sets in.

So if I hit the full moon in June (June 13th this year) at Kentucky Lake I should still see pretty decent fishing - correct?

Sounds good to me. All you gotta do is inform the gills.

No, Crappie only spawn once/yr. ... in some locations, Redear spawn monthly as long as the water temps stay between 68-75deg.

WE was on Barkley May10 and found gills on the nest and murdered them, caught around 500 in 4 days, cleaned 200
Red ear seem to be just starting, we caught about 30
I was reading and article from a study that stated red ear nest around full moon. it was 3/4 when we was down
it was tuff tossong some of those gills back but we had plnty and was just trying to target the red ear , however i did keep a few of the biggest gills

Well I may be late to this discussion but since purchasing a side imaging unit I have been on quest to find out what the spawning habits are for bluegill. I killed them in May and thought I would do so this full moon in June. Well my data taken from 4 lakes....Center Hill...Laurel Hill and VFW Lake...and Williamsport Lakes....all in Tennessee....tells me that the spawning habits are probably as tnpondmanager says. I have been burning up the highways looking for bedding Gills. I have struck out. While some of the beds I have fished have a few fish on them I have not found anything remotely close to what I was doing in May. With side imaging there is no doubt you have found bluegill beds and if you have it set up right you can even see the fish in the beds. Of those 4 lakes I have over 50 huge beds marked.....many of them deep water beds....7-9 feet of water. I went as recent as today to one of the lakes and found no bluegills on bed. I did find schools of Gills in open water around 10 feet deep. I will hit Center Hill again tomorrow morning hoping that the trip will not be a bust. I can't even remember the number of articles I have read that tells me that bluegill will be on bed a few days before full moon and a few days after full moon all summer long in Tennessee. I will continue my research...quest....but I am thinking like Walt said that SOME will be bedding all summer but it will not even be close to what we had in May.

    Regards
