That's what I do. I keep them in a little cooler with ice and take them out to fish.
Yes, I've kept maggots for up to three months in the summer. I think they're best in the first month, but they'll work as long as they're alive.

Thanks for the response. I'm all out of bait from ice season.
I will be buying bait get soon for the upcoming pre spawn here in pa. Prob get around 3,000 for me and my dad. The waxies last little longer with crappie then gills... gills are tough on them lol. They are very good at shredding a waxworm.
