I fished one of my favorite ponds on Saturday. I could not find many fish on the banks, so I switched to another tactic: fishing shallow in the deepest section of the pond.

I started doing this by accident a couple of years ago. It's simple and almost always works. I'm in my float tube in the middle of the pond, and I just cast out as far as I can. Then, I just start paddling slowly. So, I'm trolling very shallow -- maybe 2' deep at the most. The gills hit the bait HARD. I've done this with both a spinning rod and a fly rod. Both work well.

Try it sometime!
