    Default Pretty Pumpkinseed

Only 8" but nice and bright blues and orange. Pic doesnt do it justice.

Also had a 10" PS and BG that were not quite as colorful.

They hit a Rapala Scatter Rap crank in Bluegill. The bream , bass, perch, cats, and crappie have been loving that bait. Even got two 20+ pound grass carp on it.

I can paint a pretty good fish but Mother Nature leaves me in the dust when it comes to those sunfish. I know there are a lot of pretty tropical fish but none any prettier than a pumpkinseed.

You're right, the saltwater has some pretty fish but have nothing on the sunfish/pumkinseed.

I'm with BXN ... the long black earflap says it's a Longear. The coloration & patterns are very similar between the Longear & Pumpkinseed ... and makes them hard to tell apart (other than the length of the earflap).

Don't see many of them around here, that are that orange/blue ... they're mostly fire red/iridescent blue.

They're what my late Grandfather used to call "redbellies" .... and they'd put up twice the tussle of a Bluegill of the same size. We always caught them along cliff ledges or deep on steep points.

    very colorful
The finest gift you can give to any fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"
