Pull them up from 60 - 80 feet in Higgins Lake and their air bladder is sticking out of their mouths and their eyes are often just about out of their eyesockets. Of course the eye thing is ok because that makes them easier to remove and use for bait.
Happens to us on black sea bass in the ocean but only if there 70ft or deeper.
Good mess of Perches!
From my experience with dragging yellow perch up form 40 feet, if you can get them back in the water ASAP they will live. At least, I haven't seen them popping back up even when the water is calm with no wind. You have to be very fast though. Any longer than a few seconds and they're doomed.
