Mississippi River gills
The last week on pool 14 of the mississippi has been pretty good for me. Gills are starting to spawn and the action is fast and furious when you find a bedding area. Kept 14 nice ones tuesday and 18 yesterday. We have been throwing lots of 7 1/2 to 7 3/4in gills back and only keeping the 8 to 9in fish. Small tubes about 12in under a bobber has been the ticket for us and lots of times the bobber is gone as soon as it hits the water! Have even been getting a few on a small strike king crank bait. Fun fishing and id say anybody in the northern illinois region better get out now if you want in on some spawning gill action! Some nice crappies too but they are getting few and far between.
