Windy days but good bites if you could find them
Sat. and Sun. was tough fighting 15 mph wind if you were in the north part of the lake, but worth it since many species were accumulating around isolate pads in 4'. I only have a 40# thrust tm on the bow of my old bass boat and unforunately did have a heavy enough anchor to hold position or keep me from foundering in the shallows. But at least I found a school of large crappie mixed in with bass and perch that were more than cooperative hitting 3" fat grubs rigged on 1/8 oz roundhead jigs. I even caught some perch on a crankbait. That's what I call insanely active!
Sunday wasn't as bad but the pattern was gone even with a 10 mph wind from the south.
Lately it seems panfish have no problem striking larger baits versus the 1/16 oz jigs I usually cast. White perch have also been very aggressive, one hitting a spinnerbait. Wierd!
One other technique I found worked on the wind protected side of a point was to use a bobber and my handpoured minnow rigged on a 1/32 jighead. The leader under the bobber was 3' condsidering the depth was 9' and the fish off bottom. It was like using live bait seeing that stick bobber plummet after moving it a few inches horizontally. I caught perch and crappie in that spot - all told about 10 before they turned off.
Interesting two days and a reminder to always carry enough anchor wt. to hold position.
