I took a trip to Miller's Fairy Alabama a few years back. This was my first big fishing trip for Crappie. I went out for three days and caught a limit on crappie, but no big trophy. I wasn't that impressed with the size, I catch a lot of crappie in Indiana. So it was going to take a lot to impress me. Well, every day I asked the old boy at the bait shop if any BIG CRAPPIE were being caught. He said the same thing every day "son, the locals always catch dem big slabs". I passed this baithouse everyday and left with the same feeling. They didn't want some Hoosier down there catching their fish. Finally on the last day I was there, I went into the bait shop and bought some minnow and again, "son, the locals always catch dem big slabs." I might have thought a thing or two about this guy, but I didn't say a word! I get to the boat and we shove off and we start toward the main river. The old boy walks out of the baitshop to the end of the dock and says "you've gone too far." What the hell was this guy talking about?? I was getting pissed at this guy now. He dropped a little jig off the end of his dock and I pulled up a crappie that I know went 2 1/2 pounds!! He said "son, the locals always catch dem big slabs" I sat about 15 feet from his dock and caught 25 crappie that weighed just under 45 lbs!!! I thought I knew something about Crappie, just not in Alabama

Hello PapermouthLegend,
I'm JigginTBro from Ohio and I plan to do some Crappie fishing in the Indianapolis area this spring. I hear that Monroe Lake is good, but which lake in central Indiana have you had your best Slabfest?
