They definitely suspend. I catch a lot of gills well off the bottom.

DB4D is correct....will suspend just about year round on our strip mine lakes around here. We drift over them as quietly as possible with rods hanging over side of boat.

I catch'em suspended on bluff walls in the summer months on cherokee lake in tennessee. Alot of the time they are 20 foot down in 40 to 60 foot of water.
In hot summer months I fish 10 feet down using slip bobbers in 25 to 30 feet or deeper water almost all the time. That seems to be the hit zone, or where the ones that want to bite are at.
