Illustrations are available all over the internet, some in motion format. Here's one that explains how to tie the palomar knot and the hook-leader-sinker distance. The drophot has been used for catfishing for decades to keep the bait off bottom or above weeds and is similar to float & fly in a more vertical presentation that moves slowly through potential areas. Sonar is a huge help!

The drop-shot set-up is absolutely the best way to fish for panfish that are deep and near the bottom. You can pre-set your hook depth this way, keep it at the desired depth and preclude a LOT of snags. Works with redworms, crickets, minnows, etc. And, don't forget catfish; it keeps the bait above a muddy, slimey bottom!!!!!
