I was raised up around Waynesboro, graduated high school there and joined the Navy and have never lived back in GA after retiring but use to fish Briar Creek when I was a kid. Caught red bellies, stumpknockers and red fin pike in it. That looks like a red fin pike but as large as it is most be a pickerel. Those red bellies sure are good eating.

Good looking cooler of fish! How do those Chain Pickerel taste? Always thought they were trash fish and tossed them back.

Chains have a good clean white flaky meat. However, the boans are fine and numerous. Not a fish for a kid.

I come to Florida every summer for vacation to bass fish with one my best friends. He always refers to Chain Pickerel as "Jack fish". Is that a correct slang term for them?

We always throw them back, just b/c they are a pain in the butt to eat, due to all of the bones.

nice mess of panfish, but we don't keep pike under 10 pounds here...they're easy enough to fillet and make safe for the kids to eat too.
Roaming the banks of the Kankakee River and anywhere else fish might lurk.
