Default Picture of my fishing gear

Like I have said earlier, I want to get down to the simplest fishing gear as possible. I now have one bag and one rod. The first rod is a believe it or not UL casting rod 2 piece form Bass Pro for around $20.00. The bag I bought today at a thrift store was $5.00 and has 6 compartments inside and 2 outside. Magnetic latch and is made of heavy leatherette. Yep its a purse. Those float are very unique. They are 1 1/2" long and use the ped to hold the line. I drilled out the peg and now have a peg or slip float. The lures are in Altoid cans with cut down sponges for inserts. Everything else is in plastic bags.

Get some matching boots to go with the purse and you're all set!

Could be a murse [man purse]. Either way it is a great idea. The magnetic latch should be good. Nothing worse than fighting latches to get into a tackle box, I am getting rid of all my Falcon FTO boxes. With all the latches they have on them you would think you were carrying around some sort of top secret CIA files.

There's a lot to be said for simplifying your tackle, baits, etc. You can spend more time on what's really important: finding the fish.

I used to stream fish a lot and always wore a fishing vest with plenty of pockets. Those were the good old days. My age is catching up with me and wading miles up a stream is just a dream now. Now I have to settle using a boat and sometimes I still feel like I don't have enough room. I'd love to down size, but I'd feel like whatever I left at home would be the magic bait.

My knees and back keep me from the trout and smallies in the local streams, and that hurts. But change is inevitable. I like my boat fishing, and have a nice one that does well for me. I have one compartment that holds everything that I use, and if I don't use it for a good while it finds a new home. Still hanging on to the bass gear, just hardheaded I guess, but it doesn't ride with me all the time. I can't leave the house without that compartment having cranks, assassins, garlands, curlys, hand tied jigs(2 boxes) and enough jig heads to make a pretty good anchor. And I've downsized. I have a sickness with this stuff. Is it a wonder I give stuff away at the ramp?

Like the downsized version of the gear, I use a DU blind bag that isn't much different when I go with others, or go to a friends pond. A well used "must have"in my downsized box is a smoke/glitter curly tail on a 1/16 with a beetle spin. I catch lots of gill, crappie, and bass on that. The blade works good in weedy or junky areas to keep it above the trash, but sometimes doesn't offer what they want. And I always bring a seat when not in the boat.
