Default Caught some really nice gills today

Today I was only able to fish for less than three hours...I used a couple of mister twister curly tails as well as river worms. Great tasting fish...I should have had one of them mounted but my boys and I were hungry.:D

    crap...cannot post any pictures

Good looking fish!... nice and fresh!

Looks like you've got a couple Shellcrackers mixed in there too!

Honestly I cannot tell the difference between a shellcracker and a bluegill.

In the second picture, the second fish is a cracker, surrounded by gills.
Bluegills have a blue/black gill operculum (flap), the shellcrackers will have a rim around it ranging from red, to pale pinkish. Also you can see the color difference, and shellcrackers are generally longer, as compared to bluegills being "disk shaped". The last batch of crackers we caught, seemed to have extra fleshy lips....lol I'll post a pic of them later.
    Really nice looking catch!

    Nice catch!

In your middle photo there are 4 fish in one row and 2 in the bottom. The fish on the far right in the 4 row and the fish 2nd from the left are redears or shellcrakers. Bluegill will have a very light barring pattern that runs from top to bottom on the sides, There will be several bars, usually 7 or more, The redears don't have a distinct bar pattern but have a more random "spot" pattern and most will have the distinctive red "ear" at the back of the gill plate near the top. The redear on the right appears to be a female. The females of redears or bluegills will be much lighter in color and usually more yellow in color on the belly/breast whereas the male redears and bull bluegills will be more brownish/copper/bronze on the breast area just back of the throat latch.

Looks like you have a future fishing buddy. Congrats!
