Default Interesting in trying fly fishing?

I heard on another board that Walmart is clearing out their fly tackle and have Scientific Angler combos on sale for around $40. Scientific Anglers makes good stuff. That is a great deal on a very good starter outfit.

The outfit should include a rod, reel and flyline. It may also include a DVD.

Bluegills are awesome fly rod fish!

I saw one, but it was gone the next time through. I did order the St. Croix Triumph from Cabelas that they have on sale for $50.00. Been wanting a decent rod, hoping this will fill the bill till my ship comes in.

I agree 100%. Not only is blugill fishing on the fly great fun, but that Scientific Angler is an awesome setup for the price. If I could find a Walmart close by that carried them, I'd pick up another just to have it.

Fly fishing is great!!!!! When I first really got into it everything else got put away and all I did was fly fish and let me tell you what a mistake it was. As much as I enjoy it I went for almost 4 years not making any jigs, sinkers, spinners and no jig tying.

If you build it into your overall approach and split time with others ways of fishing you can enjoy it all.

The SA kits are nice just make sure you get a 3-4 weight for gills or lighter. If you want an overall system setup that you can use for panfish, bass etc. the least you want to go with is a 4-5 weight.

When you get your outfits practice in your yard, and have fun.

You MAY regret getting that rod. I bought one last year. First day out, it snapped in half. I found out that they are made in china and only have the st croix name, not quality. Took it back and got an ugly stick and gear to do some deep water perch fishing on lake erie.

Bass pro had some of their store brand combo's for about$100 last time I was in the Charlotte store. Felt good, even had line and backing I think. Just got a Phlueger 4 wt for gill and put a reel on Dad's old Browning Silaflex 7wt. Looking forward to my first season in many years with a buggy whip.

Cabela's ''Three Forks'' rods are very good and resonably priced. I got a 7.5ft 3wt for abt $50 + shipping.

I finally got my fly line to go with my new St. Croix Triumph fly rod and a chance to walk down to my pond to try it out. It is by far the nicest outfit I have ever used. That's not saying much considering what I have used before. I tied on a wooly worm that I made, another first, and hoped to catch one of the small bass that is in there. I missed one fish and then a little farther along I hooked into a nice 10" crappie. That was it, but I got a taste of what this year may hold. Hope to get plenty of chances to try and wear that new rod out.

Spring is a great time to learn, and gills are great teachers. Sinking flies will produce more fish, but don't forget the topwater bugs -- very fun!
