    Default California Purplenose

Not sure of the weight, but length was 11 inches. A thick bodied fish for sure! Released after photos.

Is a purplenose the same fish as a coppernose? I have caught bluegill with the same marking on the head.

No..It's a Florida Coppernose Bluegill that the State of California planted into the original pond 10-12 years ago that became one of the largest man-made lakes in California, Diamond Valley Lake. I just gave it that name because it was so dark and has that purple/lavender colored head.

Yeah, Perris, I have access to a 4 acre pond with several of those in it. The average size seems to be at least 8" to 10". Sometimes they have the purple heads, sometimes they don't. Great looking fish. It has to weigh well over a pound, don't you think?

Yes... I actually think it was more around the 2 pound mark. I should have taken a photo from above, to show how thick he was.
