Where to start the day?

Plan on hitting an abandoned stone quarry, pretty much at first light, in the next few days. The trees have overgrown around the edges alot with many laydowns in the water as well. Quarry runs north-south so was wondering is you guys have a preference to fishing the side that gets sunlight first or would you stay in the shaded side in the morning. Plan to only stay out till 10:30 so wanna find the fishes as soon as possible.

I'm with PW the shade side buddy. If the water is real hot the deeper the better but that can make a liar out of you too.

Shady, and start deep. Work your way up in one foot increments. If you can find the thermocline, start about 18" above it, and work up till you find the fish. Just a suggestion...........

Another suggestion - don't stay in one place too long (5 min. or so). Either they are there or they're not. Stay on the move till you find em.

Fish the shady side, and I would start around the laydowns a foot or two off the bottom at the tops of the brush. Don't waste any time fishing an area if you are catching small fish, keep moving.

I do plan to fish the laydowns for sure, some are pretty thick and can hold lots of fish. Some places have so much overhanging trees and branches they are hard to get your bait into. Taking my kayak so hope to ease up to them and use my cane pole to get back inside.

Have fished this quarry at mid day and had some luck against a wall that drops nearly 30' and stands another 10' above the water. Thinking there may be overhangs under water as well. Will be moving around alot, this place has everything in depths and bottom type - a large flat only 2' deep - vertical ledges - deep pool down to 40'. Good thing it's only 20 acres or so!

Be careful under those over hanging trees. Some snakes like to sun themselves on the branches and will drop into your boat if given the chance. At least they do down at Ky lake.

That is not a pleasant thought or experience. Happened to me one time in Wichita Kansas and that was enough for me.

What the!!!!!!!! If I'm up in those trees, see a snake, I'm gonna blame you for the jinx! Please notify my next of kin that you did at least warn me..... :D If he manages to get into the close quarters of my yak, I'm gonna retreat and swim for it!!!!!!!!!

Actually don't THINK there are any poisonous snakes round my part, but there are some big black rat snakes that do sun in the overhangs at times. Thanks for the reminder!!!

I agree with others, fish the shaded side of the lake and also fish the shaded side of the cover.
