    Default Worm Beds/Minnow storage setups?

Has anyone ever got one from Wal-mart or Bass Pro or anywhere? If so how did you like it? I'm just wondering because I don't always use all of my worms, and will be movin soon to be close to alot of good quick fishin holes, and was just wondering that best way to store the worms. Wife will not let them in the frig.
Also what is the best way that you have found to keep your minnows alive if your not able to use them all? I'm lookin at gettin an aerator for my minnow bucket, I have the old school metal minnow bucket. Thought bout gettin a small fish tank to store them in till later that week or the next weekend. Just wonderin your thoughts!!

    Thanks,
    AC

    CPAPPIEDENTIST is right.....but,

You can add tapwater, but you must allow it to set for 48 hrs to allow the chlorine to vent off. I use a small secondary tank filled with tap water that automatically keeps my primary tank with minnows full when it evaporates. Not that big a deal with temps right now, but as the temps climb upward, the evaporative proces will re-claim quite a bit of water in a days time.

I keep 8 - 10 dozen rosies in a 300 gallon outside with a dual air stone system for weeks at a time. I feed goldfish food to them and they really go after it. When I bring them in from the pond where I raise them they are conditioned with rock salt and tetracyclene for several days. This kills any fungus and helps heal any damage. I rarely lose any due to disease. Once a month I change the water and refill with well water.

When I was a kid we had one of those worm kits that looked like a small styrofoam ice chest, worked great for keeping worms so we didn't have to pull out the shovel and spend time digging em up before we went to the pond to catch gills.

My aunt and uncle owned a bait shop for about 20 years. The guys are right on about the minnows keep them cool. I like to leave out a couple gallons of tap water to be used to make ice for the minnow bucket (don't use store ice with chlorine). ALWAYS add ice to minnows and cool slowly. In summertime I will try to drop it to about 45 or 50. Boy do the minnows wake up when they hit the warm water. On the minnows, use a product called Jungle Life or Bait Life. It is blue and has chlorine/chloramine remover in it as well as salts and antibiotics. One other thing not mentioned. If the minnows are crowded, and when we get thunderstorms, they will sometimes ball up in the corners. Either set the bubbler where it will bubble through them, or you can pour water from the tank (letting it plunge into the water, thus adding oxygen to the water). When they congegate they deplete the oxygen in the water in the area and they start dying which depletes the oxygen even more.

On worm storage. Keep them cool, fridge if they are the ones from the store. Wet, not soak some newspaper and lay on top. When the box goes to smelling from the worm poop, replace with damp peat moss and a new piece of newspaper. They will last many months if you take care of them.
