Thread: Webbers Falls

Guys if you have never fished Webbers Falls you might want to start. The crappie average around 12-15" there. This river lake doesn't get much fishing pressure and the fish are the proof of that. They are hitting in about 4-6' of water and you can catch a limit in about 4-6 hrs of fishing. This lake isn't that deep thus it warms up faster and it gets discharge water from the big OG&E plant at Muskogee which adds to the warming quicker. If you are interested in fishing there I would tell you to go to Spanard Creek they are already hitting good in there. Then you can move over to Greenleaf Creek and hit around the barge pylons and the railroad bridge. I would use a slip cork and a black/pink, pumpkin/chartreuse wooly beaver tail at the above mentioned depth. Guys this is a hint. I would beware of this lake for you need to run the channel markers out on the main part of the channel and beware of the open water back up in the creeks because water deepth may only be 4-6' deep with stumps just under the surface.

Fished the area many time in bass tournaments, and you definitely want to be cautious running outside the channel, but excellent fishing can be found here.

I'm driving down to OK tonight to let my daughter stay with the in-laws for spring break and I plan on fishing this weekend. I was planning on fishing Eufaula but this place sounds interesting I checked it out on the map and marked the boat ramps with the GPS. With the cold front you all had move in down there do you think I would have more success at Webber's Falls or should I fish Eufaula? Your opinion will be greatly appreciated.

STL I would plan on maybe fishing Eufaula if you already know the lake. Webbers Falls can be tough to fish when they turn off. I have not been there since the cold spell we just had. I am sure they will pick back up next week when the weather warms. If you do decide to fish Spainard Creek put in at the ramp and head to the bridge to your east fish they pylons and then go under the bridge and fish the north bank were the lay downs are. You need to be patient the bite seems slow, but productive. Now you can go under the other bridge to the west of the ramp and hit those pylons to then if you happen to try and fish the standing timber to the west of there you are in for a big surpise. It looks like open water, but it is only about 3-4' deep and the timber is the same. If you can manage to stay in the creek channel and make it up the creek you will find some good fish in there. Hit all the laydowns on the outter edges. Go as far up the creek as you can with your boat. I run a 20'er and I go to the point I can't turn it around and have to back it out of the creek.

Thanks for the tip Crappie_jigging, I may give it a try Saturday since there's going to be a NNE wind. I have another question for you (or two) :o did you fish these areas a float all day or did you do any dipping? I thougt about vertical jigging the area and possible spider rigging if I got tired of standing.

I just used a slip cork and jig. I was using a 10' pole and hitting on the outside parts of the laydowns. Well I was set the jig down in the brush. Now around the pylons I tried casting a jig and letting it fall to about a 4 count then slow rolled it in, but for some reason the slip cork and jig worked best there too. The bite was slow, but steady for me. Just set it in and wait atleast 2-3 minutes if no bite then just pick up an move it over to another hole in the tree or pylon. I was bouncing it oh so slightly just to give it a little movement. I am sure any jig will work the water will be stained so a little bit of a dark color will work.

I would really try up the creek for your best results. Spider rigging might work near the bridges. I have not tried that. I know the water up the creek isn't really deap enough for that. You will see mainly 5-7' water once there. Bridge area will be 12-18' water.

You will see guys fishing off the bridge too, watch them they will curse you a little. Cause of a little jealousy, because they don't have a boat and want it to themselves.

The best way to the ramp is down 64 out of Muskogee. Turn onto Elm Grove Rd this is a paved road, but bumpy. Just stay on it and it will take around to the ramp. You will be crossing a bridge that you need to fish after you put in. Well actually you will cross two bridges I am talking about the second bridge. Now the ramp to use will be to your west when you cross over the bridge. You can see it when you cross the bridge.

The first bridge isn't that big so don't get confused here by my statement. You will know when you cross the right bridge. You will see another bridge to your right as you cross it. That is the Muskogee Turnpike.

I am telling you if you go out into the main river you better run the channel markers cause this place will eat up a boat and motor in a heart beat.

If you leave Spainard Creek and head for Greenleaf Creek go due east and before the river turns you will see Greenleaf Creek to your left. Water gets to about 7' after you leave the main channel just watch for any floating logs or submerged logs. Once you get in there hit the barge pylons to your right then go straight across and hit the laydowns on the west bank. Will have to hit the outsides of them get shallow from mid tree back. Make sure to hit the train bridge pylons to.
