It’s muddy everywhere right now. It’s red towards the rivers and muddy towards the South end.
Any catfish reports, EB? We're planning on coming over for the weekend, probably on the north end.
Heard its been good limb-lining, jugging, and rod and reel up by the rivers. Shallow 3-5ft

A few buddies fishing with me at the dock this weekend. I cleaned 65 yesterday and 61 today. Several were full of eggs - so they are coming in to get ready for the spawn.
Does anyone have a recent surface temp reading?
Surface temp on Saturday in the slip at our dock was 56 degrees.
Are they gonna be moved up to the bank down south by this weekend??

I didn't do any fishing last weekend, but the few guys I talked to down around the docks said they were probably moving out to deeper water with the lake level coming down. If it will stabilize, they'll probably start moving back towards the banks again. I hope to find a little time to do a little fishing at our dock this weekend. Last weekend was spent rebuilding my fish box -- hopefully this time it will be otter-proof.Quote:

Well, ok maybe it didn't take me all weekend - just Saturday morning. Sunday I was recovering from a fish fry and party we had with some friends. But yes, I do have a winch, steel cable and pulley system to raise and lower the box. I changed out all of the 16 ga welded wire screen (took a long time to grind down all of my welds where I had installed it). I replaced that all with #13 3/4" flat expanded metal.
Not sure why vertical images are now being inserted horizontally and I don't see any way to rotate the image.

We went Friday and Saturday and the fish we did catch was in 7-10 about 6-8ft down on the south end.

Glad to see someone catching some this weekend. I fished for a couple of hours today at our dock and didn't catch a single thing.

But if you just want to try rigging like I did without investing about 250$ for decent rods its a good way to see if you like rigging. The rack is driftmaster. I like EB's setup with single stand holders each screwed into the boat separately. The racks are a bit fuzzy when it comes to detecting bites. When one shakes they all shake.

Don’t know which rod holders you use Chris but I switched all mine to the driftmaster gun slingers. Don’t have near the movement on a bite I had with the standard holders they sell. I know grizzly jig sells them cheaper than anybody

Forgot to mention I’m running the driftmaster h250’s. Another thing that helps a lot when you use a tbar is adding more weight to your rig. Takes a lot of bounce out of the rods when a fish hits. If you are running a half ounce weight try an ounce

I am running really soft tip rods about as close to the water as I can get them. I pretty much went to straight 1 ounce weight in all depths. Extra weight takes a lot of bounce out of the rod and keeps them down in all this wind

Tim I’ve guided spider rigging for 15 years sometimes 16 Rods on a trip. Yes I said 16 rods lol. Anyway when I decided to set up this boat for guiding the Dub l seats and driftmaster Crappie stalkers were the cats ass. Chris is stating that the bite detection is unreal. If the minnow runs from the Crappie it tells you. We all know that the Crappie will hit a big jig harder than anything, but when they are finicky the minnows out fish the jigs. When you can see them pick it up it’s worth it. Don’t get me wrong my clients miss lots of fish but that’s mostly because they are not use to the technique at first then 3 hrs into the trip they see it! I just run the boat and take fish off! As far as weights by depth. 2-6ft-1/4, 6-12ft- 1/2, and 12-20ft 3/4 ounce. The bounce had more to do with the weight in the front of your boat. Hope this helps?
Eufaula report- guys the fish are biting, they’re are some shallow but mist are still staging for pre spawn. Mostly in the creeks. The lake fish are still winter pattern to pre spawn. I believe this weekend with 3 nights in the 50-60s the fish will be hard on the bank Sat and Sun.

Bryan I know it’s a challenge running long poles with folks that have never done it before. Those stalkers are the way to go no doubt but have caught a lot of fish on the T bars. I stuck with the 12 ft poles for beginners until they get the hang of it. I believe Chris started with 16’s that’s pretty amazing. Think the difference is I normally only rig in 8 to 25 fow on kaw where you guys are running pretty shallow. I do know when a blue cat hits a pole it is a big cluster quick.

One thing about rigging I have noticed, when things go bad - they go real bad! When I get some real rods I am going to go with 3 piece 14 footers I think. The 16 footers are brutal to deal with in a 17.5' boat when you have a bad tangle. I like the having the longer reach but knocking back two feet is going to make it much easier to deal with problems.
I'm using 14ft Ozarks that I bought from SwollenCrappie. I like em fine. But I need offset tip savers because I hate rigging and un rigging to travel down the road.
I guess I use heavier than most, but they seem to work for me. I use B&M Pro Staff trolling rods because I prefer to move faster (power troll jigs or push crankbaits.) To me, it's primarily a search method. Once I find a concentration I prefer to move to hand held vertical jigging. If I don't find a concentration they still seem to do well in the pre and post spawn when the fish are scattered. It's really not a favorite way for me to fish because I find it much easier to deal with a couple of 10 or 11 foot rods than six 12 or 14 footers. It works though.
We caught probably 130 or so up on the North end this weekend. Ended up cleaning 85 10" and bigger fish. Caught them anywhere from 2' to 8' deep. We where there all weekend though. They should be on the banks this week or next.

Fished the north end today. Tried creeks, banks, structure, and anything else I could find. Ended up with 2 good fish. WTer temp was 58^ and water was stained. A lot of people on the banks and in boats. Didn't see anyone tearing them up.
