Rockin' and a Rollin'
Four friends missed a real opportunity last night. None of them could go with me to enjoy a roller coaster ride at the Ft. Cobb dock. As I arrived, there was a light rain, and Tom and Rena were just going out to check their jugs. They came back about an hour later with a nice blue. Soon after, a torrential rain started. Another 45 minutes later, I mentioned that we were supposed to get a thunderstorm about 9 o'clock. Ten seconds later, we could hear the thunder in the distance. Then, Hurricane Cobb struck with all its fury. For about fifteen minutes, the thunder was rolling, the lightning was flashing, and people were dashing (for their trucks), just like the Roger Miller song. The waves grew and grew, causing the whole dock to rock and roll (hope Bob's store inside is not scattered all over the floor), moored boats to buck and pitch, the deck to be covered with water from the large waves Four or five of us stayed on the deck. One Asian guy came over and asked if he thought is was safe to stay on the dock. I told him "Probably not, but the fish are biting". As my young son said after we rolled a small pickup 4 1/2 times many years ago on a slick spot that has just been resurfaced without a chip coat: "Sure was a fun ride".
Oh, a spoon jigger got his limit of small fish, I got two 13s, a ten, and 7 small ones, mostly on the fluke.
