There is a new entry level kid on the block and it is awesome!!!!! For those who dream of having a plasma size hds hanging on their boat but haven't found the 3,000 dollars to do it...I have the answer. The new Garmin striker 7sv. It has a seven inch screen, chirp transducer, and side view!!!....Yes I said side view for $499.
Now that I have you all excited there are a few drawbacks. There is no mapping system installed and you can not add a lake card. All that it shows it a white screen with your boat location which you can make waypoints....It is pretty much worthless if you are looking for a good gps mapping sonar. So what do you do?...If you have an lowrance elite or other more affordable sonar that already has mapping then you can run both side by side and look like a pro.
I would suggest finding an online site with free shipping and no taxes. I found mine at gps nation...they were great and shipped fast. Also a plus is that you can buy a three year warranty for only 25 dollars that covers one free fix or replacement after the manufacture warranty runs out...that includes transducer. Any fix after the first one only cost you 15% of the purchase price for three years...not a bad deal...
Check it out at cabelas or bass pro...this is a pretty cool unit.
I was all set to buy a Striker 7 sv, then I saw a post from BBG Marine over on Bass Boat Central. He is closing out the non chirp versions of the 73sv and 93 sv for substantial discounts. I picked up a 93sv and am having installed tomorrow.
Closeout Sale -Garmin Echomap 93sv and Echomap 73sv "NON-CHIRP" now available !
