If the rubber band method doesn't work I simply wrap the line around the reel handle and pull the pod straight back. 9 times out of 10 it bends the hook and I bend it right back. On the 1/4 oz egg head I've been using lately it requires a 2/0 hook. No problems bending it and straightening back.
I have a small piece of Hex PVC that I use for the same thing. It doubles as a prop for the rear hatch where the batteries are when charging.Quote:

I'm no expert for sure but it seems to me when I'm on a pile and have to pull a jig so hard to straighten the hook I spook the fish and very few or no more bites.
Same for me Doug, at least not for 15 min or so? And I fish with the king of destruction!!! LOL Sorry Jeff!!! I have to admit though he's also the king of construction as well so no complaints here we just go to the next pile.
Rubber band trick, I watched Huckabee do this from my boat probably 10 years ago, guiding new fisherman to this technique I tell them the key is don't pull if you know you are hung up. Give slack immediately then if it doesn't come out, I show them how to pop it off there. 1. Give yourself plenty of line to work with 2.get right over the jig 3.pop it from every angle. If its brush it comes off, rocks is about 50/50 chance. If it doesn't work pull it straight very slowly, sometimes palomar knots tied on your bottom jig will hold better. EB

I've been known to do the "pancake" method when I get hung up several times and have to retie each time. Simple method that has worked for me for years. I simply say; "Heck with it" and then I head to the house and have some pancakes.
I bought 3 Todd Huckabee pro series rods to double dip with from Ken at the show Friday. I was using another brand. If you put one of these rods in your hand you will feel a tremendous difference. My wife and I fished about 3 hours yesterday and brought home 19 with several over 1.5 and a couple just under 2 on the digital scales. The ability to feel the brush and just dropped it back down and the ability to feel even the most subtle thumps is one thing. But the ability to turn the fish out of the brush is great. That combination is worth it. Buy one and try it.
