Yeah I don't know. I saw on FB videos of runoffs from both lakes. My thinking would be fill up the lakes but what do I know. Maybe Cricket George has insight on this.

So I went to lake hefner and seen that the water level is coming up and got pretty stoked. Yet then I went over to lake overholser and they are letting water out of the Oklahoma river dam instead of running as much water down Bluff creek as they can and filling up hefner. Why do you guys think they are doing this. They get all this rain I would think Hefners water level would be top priority. Are they thinking we are suppose to get more rain so there not worried about it?

They are keeping the "Oklahoma River" full for the downtown amusement park at the expense of Lake Hefner.
I will make a call or 2
They keep the OK river full all the time with or without rains.
I wish they would put as much effort into taking care of our metro lakes as they do the Oklahoma River.
Lake Overholser is at capacity with nowhere for the water to go. The water can not go back up the canal to Hefner. So where else can it go? Hefner is at approx. 75% of capacity with runoff coming from everywhere. I anticipate that the lake will be full when the rain finally ends.
Overholser is only at 73% according to the national water information system. And when they drained Canton they closed the canal damn in order to send it to Hefner so I just don't see why they can't get Hefner full first and then dump the rest. Guess that's why I work in the oilfield instead of The wildlife department or who ever controls this.
The OKC Water Trust regulates the water.
