Well, now it's time to let the cat out of the bag. In years past, while tournament bass fishing, I caught many 2+ pound crappie while throwing a spinnerbait for bass (but never a true citation.). I always have a lightweight spinning rod in my rod locker with a 3/16 oz spinnerbait attached. I still catch a bunch of crappie as well as bass on it. In the spring you can fish the banks or first break off the bank and do well. You can also fish it deep by slow rolling it thru and around brushpiles. I rarely catch dinks with it. It's a favorite throwback to my bass days. Next time you see me check it out (usually have a white 3" grub as a trailer.)
Largest I have caught was 2lbs 10oz from the small lake in Riverton Ks. ended up letting her go. Have seen 2, 17 inch fish come from Riverton and seen one 18 inch crappie come from Spring river in Baxter Springs where I live but I did not catch those. The 18 incher was caught by a kid about 10 years old and he was sure happy!
Did good at kaw sunday caught 20 all on g daddy. Biggest one 16 inches 1 lb 9 ounces.maybe this week i can join the 3 lb club
Which G-Daddy Bait?
Back in the late eighties I caught 2 at hulah on the same day that were 18.5 inch fish. I will try to find a picture of them. Biggest crappie I have ever seen never caught one much over 2 since. I entered one at the local walmart when they used to run those contests. It weighted 3 14 you could put a can in there mouths.
got one pinned up for the Big O tourny!!!
Ledge, that fish looks a little small for a 3+. You might want to do a little more pre-fishing.
ya might wanna photo shop that a wee bit more lol
Not a 3lb fish, but this 12" crappie, and 14" cat is what it's all about for me now! Son got his first stand alone fish.Attachment 203414
