Gen 3 info

Well, D(in)K, understand now Kimo Sabe? While I admit to have some serious issues, I know a little (very little) about where you are located and what some of the natives push off on you touristas ie; Star meat (rats spelled backwards) just to name one....hehehe
But, getting back to the original issue, you could be right, I could be wrong...I was once when I thought was wrong but, found out later I weren't! (did that make any sense?)
I was thinking about what the pricing would be on the Gen 3, not on previous models after the Gen 3 becomes a reality. I don't recall the price on the Gen 1 units going down any after the introduction of the Gen 2 units, at least for a long time.
Seriously, DG, (is that better?) IF I were planning to buy another unit, I would only go for the very latest available. And, for one very good reason. Once a new generation is introduced, shortly thereafter, support for the oldest product in that line goes away. Then you are stuck with replacing it. Lowrance has lately offered a tradein allowance, much higher than in the past but still, you are going to have to buy another unit at some point.

FYI, I hope you know that the back and forth banter is strictly for fun, nothing personal intended and nothing taken either. (Just to be sure we are on the same wavelength.)

And I appreciate the Lowrance counsel which is causing me to reconsider my well considered decision to go Gen 2. I have needed an excuse to spring for the TWIRP technology and you have provided it. Since I will need to decimate my kids inheritance to buy it I'm gonna print out your advice and give it to my wife when she hands me the divorce papers so it's all on you if I end up losing my best friend for the last 45 years. Okie B I think I'm gonna give your idea a shot- kinda falling in love with the idea of CHIRP sight unseen and haven't seen a gen 2 price drop yet to justify depriving myself of the ultimate advantage. And that line- " harder than the hinges of hell"., that's good stuff- they didn't teach you that in Texas.

DK, I have not spent anytime looking into chirp other than reading a couple of articles on it. So, I don't profess to know anything worth knowing about it yet. I'm NOT in the market for any new electronics at this point.
Not sure I understand your schedule either. I assume you have a boat to put new electronics on? What I'm getting at is that if possible to wait a bit, I'd wait and see what other 'first adapters' learn and report back about the new products before buying. For example, I just had to be the first kid on the block to have 'spotlight' and I am totally disappointed in it and wish I had saved my money.

Good advice OB but I'm not sure I have mastered delayed gratification well enuf to take it! I have the boat and told myself in August of 2012 ( the date we decided when to leave the USA for an 18 month mission trip beginning a year later) that come Feb. 2015 I would purchase a big screen side scan unit to improve my chances. In 7 weeks I hit home and as soon as I take 12 grandchildren out for donuts I am on the water looking for fish. I've always kind of poor boyed equipment so chances are I will end up waiting for the gen2 price to drop but in the meantime I will watch for reviews on the new technology and see if I can't eddicate myself a little more. I already have a whole closet full of buyers remorse- don't really need more.
