    Default Navigation Channel - 2014

The Nav Channel tournament is now three weeks away. I thought I would get some conversation going about it in a new thread. I've gone thru the old 2012 thread with some interesting reading.

I've never been on the Channel and have some general questions about fishing it. WW42 and I plan on donating for this tournament and we will need all the help we can get. At least this will get the conversation started on a cold winter day.

How does the water temperature compare when fishing the channel? Is it usually about the same as area lakes or warmer because of the flow? Crappie mostly Black or White? Water clarity compared to area lakes? Dangerous obstacles in the channel to look out for?

About all I can do from here is look at it on Goggle Earth and try and visualize where the fish should be. We probably won't actually get on the water till just before the tournament. Any general tips or hints without giving away your honey spots will be appreciated.

I've only fished it a few times for crappie but there is a ton of cover in the oxbows east of Tulsa both north and south of highway 51. Now, I have jug lined in the main channel and depending on flow or should say no flow out of Oolagah the main channel will only average 12-15 ft from low water above catoosa to 51 bridge. However there are some deep holes as well.

It was really good last winter, lots of fish in the deeper Oxbows but the better fish this time of year are on the wod tight to the bottom off the main channel close to the deeper parts. EB

Where is the check in point going to be? Nearest ramp with a dock? If there is no dock a dirt bank to load without beating the boat up on rocks?

Fishable waters will be from Catoosa down river to the Lock and Dam at Webber Falls. There are several ramps open in this stretch of river but most are in the Oxbowls. These maybe iced in with the weather we are having. Hopefully in the coming days we will begin to warm and open up these ramps. Although there are several ramps on the river itself that can be used they may not be where you plan to fish. Look for further information in the coming days.....Ranger

Thank for the heads up Ranger.

IkenI, Thank you for starting the thread. If we can get the boat fixed I think CrappiePappa and I will fish this one. It depends on a lot of things though.

The long range weather forecast is beginning to look pretty good for the time around the tournament. Hopefully, the warmer temps for a few days will get rid of all the ice.
