I fish a dock that has PVC only, sure nice not getting hung up on brush. Buy PVC or lures??? for main member use 2" light weight sewer pipe and drill holes for as many 1/2 cross pcs you want to use then hang from dock. Will be there for ever.

Use bamboo. You don't get hung on it too much and it works better than PVC IMO.
We've always used cedars under our dock -- hanging by the top with rocks weighted to the bottom. This helps spread the branches out so they aren't so dense. We tried PVC several years ago and never had any luck. It was nice not getting hung up instead of pulling the cedar up to get released. But I'll deal with the hassle of pulling the trees up in order to get better results.
There is everything under the sun submerged at the marina where I fish the most, (Thunderbird), and they are all productive at times but the most "quality" crappie and most consistent is where the bamboo is. In my personal slip, I have and in the order of most productive, buckets with limbs of trees I trimmed around my house, christmas trees , and pvc.
I have a dock that sets as deep as 28 feet. I have the pvc but the only thing that seems to like it is catfish. The trees work much better for me. They are tied to the dock. Every Christmas I drive the neighborhood and load up Christmas trees and add to my underwater forest.
