Wish I had been there to see that! My mental image of that happening is hilarious.

Are you trying to lip the fish to land them or just swinging them up? Could be with the longer rod than you're use to, that you are giving the bigger fish enough slack line to slide off hook? Might try taking a net with you? Jmo, hope you figure out the issues at hand👍👍

Memory of the events make me think that there is no slack in the line as I have rod tip high because I prefer to fling em up on the deck, but thought about taking net next time. Maybe one of those new 160 inchers as advertised on here. Net em about 4 ft under the water

I have had that problem before with ULite dock rods and 4# line (when fish were 20-25') . I went to braid, as Redge suggested, and a harder set. If you are using an ULite at that depth its hard to set it to hard. I have also sometime went to a little heavier rod. Just my 2 cents.

Got the Bonehead Braid on. Most are thinking its a soft hookset it looks like, but I should still look at another rod option!

Use braid and a stiffer rod.

So, everything being about equal, UL to UL, does a 2 ft longer rod have more give or flex? Tired of losing good fish.
