Hmmm, very interesting. Thanks for the info Ciller. I'll look into it. Would love to have some in the pond I like to fish the most, which is right here at the house. The other 2 are on the farm 3.5 hours from the front door so I don't fish them much anymore. ( still gunna feed the in laws bass and channel though)!

Got a question to what you said ciller.

When I do find crappie in ponds (which isn't often), Most of the time they are black. Do you have a favorite technique for getting these sneaky guys, or what's worked best for you?

I usually fan cast a roadrunner jighead with a crappie thunder body on it, after I've casted around any structure I can see.

But like I said this usually produces bass.

That was a great trip Mark! Til on the way home one of the two drums tumped over spilling huge slabs all over the back of the truck. We managed to get em all home more or less intact and we think only killed one of the big girls. We weighed the top seven and they went 12 lbs. 6 oz.. We actually only saved the blacks that Ranger thought would go over 1.5 lbs. and the others rolled themselves in cornmeal and jumped in the grease but we relocated more than we ate from that trip; easily the best day of crappie fishing I ever experienced. I even caught Ranger smiling a time or two but never on camera! Thanks for resurrecting that great memory Mark. And Youngblood- I use a jig and slip cork most of the time but when the grand kids hit " Po Po's Pond" it's cane poles and minnows.

I used to fish a strip pit that was full of dink crappie. I used minnows with a bobber. Thing is, there were more turtles than fish and they would swim in flocks anytime a bobber hit the water to go steal the minnow.
