    Default sonar images

I thought I would share a shot from a recent trip. Surprisingly no fish were there, or at least willing to bite. I am using a HumminBird 798ci SI Combo. This shot was from a run about 5 feet to the left of center along a laydown. You can see there is good image from the right side of the side imaging transducer and a "ghost" image from the left side of the transducer. Apparently humminbird side imaging has a small overlap from side to side, a tad cross-eyed if you will. The deeper the water the more pronounced the overlap. I was wondering if Lowrance has the same issue.Name: S00066.PNG

Man I would love to fish that about March!! Great image Fishers! If you turn the Contour Mode on or off (can't remember which) you will have a nice pretty picture, but you will loose the water column.

Remember your angles guys, you must drive over the brush perfectly to get clear view. Plus if the brush is on a slope it will appear better on one side or the other. EB

I do not see the overlap on mine. As EB said, get far enough away and for the cone to concentrate on one side, but i have not noticed it on mine. Was showing Achiro the rooftop Saturday and it was only on one side.

Sounds like you guys need help understanding side imaging. You are not getting a ghost image of the tree. You are looking at the water colum under the boat and catching some of the tree on the left also. If you were to use the Down scan, that would only show some of the tree but the structure scan will show more as it goes futher out. If you need any more help, I would love to help out. Go to DoctorSonar.com and Doc will explain this to you better or ask him on Thursday at 7:00pm as he will be a guest here on CDC.

Shane, I spoke with you and BEBE sat when we pulled out. My LSS1 transducer went out, I replaced it 2 wks ago with LSS2. It is mounted to the bottom of my jackplate. Once i get above 6mph it goes away. I am ok with that bc of its location. But, when i come off plane or back below that speed, The down and sidescan scroll super fast, white, and flashes 5.0 for depth. Is what helps most, if boat comes to complete stop, reverse for a little turbulence, then forward, it generally clears out. sometimes this can take 4-5 min to clear out. The 2d sonar becomes grainy at this time also. it is mounted at the bottom of the hull like they should be. It happened occasionally with my LSS1, but not enough to remember the last time. Turning the unit off, and restarting does not help either. Suggestions?

I would love to help you but I don't remember much about your boat other than it's size. If you want to take a picture and send it to me, I might be able to help before this weekend. If you want to wait, I can help out sat. You can email me at [email protected] or call me at 316-323-0010. By the way, this is Jim and I Saturday going north. I am glad we were in his ranger and not my Triton..
