Well thanks for the input, as soon as I give it a go I'll post results. Do you guys fish jigs or minnows in winter? I also thought I read that minnows work best, but in my area minnows are scarce this time of year.

try some thin water, i know it wont work, try something out side the box...
find a creek near a flat, a round 10 - 15ft. deep... don't give up...
try jigs 5-10ft deep with or with out a cork. with boat in 8-20ft. of water. works well with water temps in the mid 40s & 50's...
The size of jig tell you what size of cork, go small...reel it slow, let it sit, pop it a little near stumps & lay downs..
just play with it...the fish will tell you... don't give up, find a creek near a flat with stumps & or lay downs... good luck
